Miss UNCF 2018-19 Coronation

On November 11, Miss MaKayla Brown was crowned as Oakwood University Miss UNCF 2018, at a small, but elegant, coronation event in the Powell Auditorium of the Bradford Cleveland Brooks Leadership Center. It was a delightful evening celebrating female leadership and poise.
To compete for the crown, contestants must be active members of the Pre-Alumni Council, and must raise a minimum of $1000, which is sent directly to the UNCF for scholarships. The UNCF gives over $100 million in scholarships every year to its HBCU member institutions. Miss Brown will join the queens of the other UNCF schools at the annual Pre-Alumni Conference.
The Division of Advancement, the Office of Alumni Relations and officers of the Oakwood Pre-Alumni Council congratulate Miss MaKayla Brown (class of 2019), a pre-physical therapy major from Atlanta, Georgia, whose efforts brought in the highest amount by the required deadline. The second contestant, Maya Rawls (class of 2020), a biomedical sciences major from Las Vegas, Nevada, is also to be commended for her fundraising efforts. The two students raised a total of nearly $8,000 for UNCF scholarships.
A note of gratitude to all family members, Oakwood alumni, believers of the UNCF mission, home church members and friends who contributed to the campaigns of these two contestants.
Congratulations to our new queen MaKayla, and also to Maya, our runner-up, for a job well done. Click here to see additional photos from the elegant and colorful event..
