From the President’s Desk

Southern Union Executive Committee
While attending the Executive Committee meetings this week, I am inspired by the Southern Union’s initiative in confirming 2019 as “The Year of Evangelism.” Dr. Ron C. Smith, ‘79, President of Southern Union and Vice-Chair of the Oakwood University Board of Trustees, indicates that the “Southern Union plans to advance the mission of the church by intentionally growing our union by planting churches and baptizing men and women into the faith.”
One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the Seventh-day Clergy and Educator Medallions. This special award was created by Steve Norman, ‘ 73, Communications Director of the Southern Union, to commemorate our predecessors in service. Among the many honorees were Richard and Mabel Norman, long time employees of Oakwood University, the Southwest Region, South Central, and South Atlantic Conferences.
Oakwood University is privileged to be a member of the South Central Conference, Southern Union, the North American Division, and General Conference Executive Committees. Once again, while attending these meetings, I am impressed that the support of these organizations is vital to the success of our University.
First Prime Contract Signed
On Friday, November 30, 2018, Oakwood signed its first prime contract with the US Census Bureau. This contract will not only refurbish our 4920 off-campus business-innovation building, but it will also yield us more than $300,000 in non-tuition revenue across the next two years. For this blessing, we praise the Lord!
