During the 2018-2019 school year, a lecture about the impact of the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955 was sponsored in part by the Alabama Humanities Foundation in conjunction with Oakwood University’s English and Foreign Languages Department.
The community and a group of dedicated educators and scholars from the Huntsville City School System were recipients of this workshop which heightened awareness of this powerful boycott planned and executed by the residents of Montgomery, Alabama.
During this educational service, attendees visited historical landmarks in Montgomery and wrote and published a collection of poetry on their experience, entitled “Leaving a Path to Freedom.”
