Ayanna Albertson, ’15 , has been performing spoken word poetry for seven years. She was recently featured in an artistic showcase in Greenville, North Carolina, called “Lyrical Elevation.” Albertson said she performs with the Bull City Slam Team across North Carolina and several states. Albertson said events like these are important for the community and poetry, and the arts are too essential to her. “I think spoken word poetry is a really powerful tool,” she continued. “It’s less Dr. Seuss-y and more words of substance, and to always remember to stay true to your piece and yourself.”
