The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) has served as the nation’s largest and most effective minority education organization since 1944, with the strong belief in investing in the future of today’s visionaries and tomorrow’s leaders. The UNCF has raised over 4.8 billion dollars since the organization was founded, and has assisted over 450,000 minority students to gain higher education and receive degrees at member colleges.

As the only UNCF member institution in Northern Alabama, Oakwood participates in and benefits from UNCF’s fundraising campaigns, including the coronation of Miss UNCF at Oakwood University each year. One of these candidates will be crowned Miss UNCF 2019-2019 on October 6, based on the amount of funds she raised by October 1, 2019.

All fundraising after the contestants’ deadline (October 1) will still be directed to support the UNCF mission. Funds coming in after the deadline will help increase Oakwood University’s overall Miss UNCF pageant campaign total and will help our winning contestant to possibly win the National Miss UNCF title.

Our Oakwood University Miss UNCF 2019-2020, the Pre-Alumni Council, and others will continue to raise funds until the fundraising submission deadline on January 25, 2020.

Thank you for your support, and remember: “A mind is a terrible thing to waste, but a wonderful thing to invest in.”
